StudentCam is C-SPAN's annual national video documentary competition that encourages students to think critically about issues that affect our communities and our nation. For the 2018 competition, we asked students to choose a provision of the U.S. Constitution and create a video illustrating why it's important to them. A seven-minute, journalistic-style video that describes the centrality of the First Amendment guarantee of freedom of the press to the political American story, discusses the current challenges to the First Amendment, explores how the challenges exacerbate divisions among Americans, and recommends solutions. I also emphasize throughout my personal interest in the First Amendment due to my status as a youth journalist.
