Insights from Anosognosia:
Seeing Through the Mind's Eye

In this presentation, Mark Solms will show a video of his clinical interview with a woman who claimed that her paralyzed arm could move. In a poignant set of exchanges, he comes to understand her internal experience, and how this accounts for the apparent denial of the paralysis. Solms will elaborate on this case and its similarity to other cases of anosognosia, exploring some of the deep implications for our understanding of fantasy and denial, and how even those of us with "normal" mental functioning are essentially interacting with the world we see with our mind's eye.
