CBS has live video coverage of the election available through Verizon Wireless V CAST and on-demand video for the iPhone, Ethan Dreilinger, Director of CBS Mobile News, told Andy in an interview this afternoon.
"It's a much richer experience, and it's more of the experience that you are expecting," he says. "So if you're expecting a video or picture to come to you, we can do that, we can send that to you, if that's what you want. If you just want us to send you a quick snap of information, we can do that as well."
Verizon Wireless's VCAST service also has election video from channels NBC News and ABC News Now and CNN Mobile TV has live streaming video available through AT&T and Sprint. In addition, many major media outlets have election-specific websites and services for mobile phones: For example, Google has a number of offerings such as state voting information at m.google.com/elections, and NBC News and The New York times have text alerts which even non web-enabled phones can receive.
Mobile news consumption isn't new, but the increasing usage of web-enabled smartphones combined with a historical election will certainly yield some interesting data about mobile news consumption.
