"It was a unique opportunity because there are certain insights that you can only get from a judge," remarks David Anthony, a JD candidate in Professor Lawrence Hamermesh's Corporate Finance class. As part of Judges Day on April 8th, The Chief Judge of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, Mary F. Walrath, spoke to the class about a Chapter 11 case involving Exide Technologies, a leading manufacturer of automotive batteries.
"Experiences like the one I had today should happen more often," remarks Laura Wyatt, an LLM student from Romania who will graduate in May, adding, "I really appreciated the opportunity to see what's going through a judge?s mind.? David Anthony agrees, stressing that he found it very useful to find out "what types of arguments are persuasive in her court."
"I would have liked to be able to spend more time with the judge," says Shana Pinter, a JD candidate who will be interning at the Securities and Exchange Commission over the summer, but she notes, "One of the great things about Widener is that they're really reaching out to the judicial community, and that's creating really great opportunities."
