Qik's Business Model Revealed: Subscription, Ads and Rev Share with Carriers and Handset Makers.....Steve Garfield Explains How it Works
Qik is a service which allow users of high-end Nokia phones to shoot and upload distinct segments to a company server. These segment are saved on a user's channel and can be automatically sent to YouTube, Facebook, Seesmic and various blogging platforms.
The service is being used by leading edge video bloggers incluing Robert Scoble and Steve Garfield and adoption is expanding. Below Steve explains how he uses the service.
Venture Beat reported last month that company raised $3 million. Liz Gannes over at NewTeeVee expanded on that original report.
Earlier this week in New York at Streaming Media East, I interviewed Qik's Bhaskar Roy who explains the functionality of Qik. One thing that I was not aware of was the ability to download and edit files which were sent to Qik. That is great solution to gather, organize and edit contributions on group projects.
Bhaskar reveals the four monetization schemes for the company. They are a subscription model, advertising, revenue share with carriers and revenue share with handset makers.
