My mom is American, so I know of Thanksgiving. Plus, Australia is influenced a lot by America, thus most Australians know of Thanksgiving.
This was my first year attending a gathering/dinner for Thanksgiving. It's all about the Turkey; I still haven't looked up why. I also haven't figured out what Thanksgiving is all about, but I guess it's a good excuse to get family together.
I was staying with Cait & Jason in Phoenix, Arizona, at this time and they invited me to Thanksgiving with Jason's family.
