Blinkx Re-Launches Destination Site for Full-Length Television Shows
Blinkx, the video search engine based on speech-to-text technology, offers both a white label solution for video publishers as well as a consumer destination.
The destination has grown in popularity from under 500,000 to more than 3.5 million monthly uniques over the past 12 months, according to Compete. The company has indexed many millions of clips of professional and user-generated video.
Separately, the company had provided a search portal called Blinkx Remote where users could purchase full-length television downloads.
Today, the company is re-launching Remote as a free portal to search and index full-length videos from the major broadcast networks. The episodes are streamed on the native players. Blinkx monetizes this through contextual advertising on the search site.
For an overview on Remote and the growing interest in organizing full-lengthy video, I spoke with Suranga Chandratillake, founder and CEO.
News Gathering Via Skype
You will notice that my interview with Suranga was done via Skype, with me in New York and Suranga in San Francisco. Sure, it doesn't look like Nightline, but it works pretty well and we will be using this increasingly when we can't travel or assign a local producer.
